What Do CASA Volunteers Do?

CASA Volunteers are men and women who want to help their community’s children.    CASA volunteers, as appointed officers of the court, work closely with the attorneys assigned to the case.  Often, a CASA Volunteer is the only consistent adult with whom the child has contact.  When a CASA Volunteer is appointed to a child’s case, he or she is responsible for frequent contact with that child.  CASA Volunteers search for information, review records, interview parents, talk to teachers, neighbors, caseworkers, attorneys, and most importantly – the child. CASA Volunteers prepare written reports and testify in court to provide information and observations to the Judge on the child’s progress and needs. They also make recommendations about where the child should be placed and what services would help the child or family. CASA Volunteers stay with the case until it is closed.
